So you remember this mess, right? Well, it looks like that no more!! It took several weeks of patching, sanding, patching, sanding, priming, painting, gluing, hanging, plumbing, and scrubbing, but it's done! Mostly.

I was young and excited to paint my first home when I painted this room Dare Devil Red by Behr. See, I was so excited about this color that I remember what it was even though I painted it over 7 years ago! It wasn't until a little over 2 years ago that I installed the tile floor painted the vanity black. Other than that I made no changes. Changes really needed to happen in here! I hated the light fixture. I hated the medicine cabinet in the wall. I hated the mirror. I hated the faucet. And I was so tired of the color.

The color is Carolina Inn Lobby Yellow by Valspar. I originally wanted something a little more mustardy, and had picked out Carolina Inn Crossroads Gold, but hubby thought it'd be too dark. And we'd had about enough of dark with the red! I like it, though. It looks different throughout the day depending on how much light is coming in through the skylight.

So here's the rundown. New light fixture!! No more 1980's runway lights! It's from Lowe's. I liked the clean lines and I really liked the price. So much so that I bought two! If you look closely at this picture you'll see the same fixture hanging over the vanity. Don't look too closely because all the tools that were moved out of the bathroom were put on the vanity. :)

I gave the builder's grade mirror a facelift. The sink got an update with a new faucet. I added a rail from IKEA to hold toothpaste, qtips, cotton balls and the like in cute little buckets. (I thought this was going to be so convienient for me! Little did I know that the toddler would think to climb up on the toilet to grab qtips and throw them all over bathroom!) I still want to find a wall cabinet to hang above that rail to store a few of the things that had been living in the old, ugly medicine cabinet. I'm on the hunt for the perfect one!

The shower curtain was a find at Marshall's. It was actually the first time I went to Marshall's when I found this shower curtain. It was what kicked off the "I want to paint the bedroom and bathroom" excitement. I need a new shower curtain rod. Or the old one needs touched up. The curtain hooks have been hiding under the sink in the hall bath for several years. Hubby didn't like them (he uses the hall bath since the master is so small) because they didn't move smoothly on his curtain rod. When we replaced them I just put these ones in a bag and hid them under the sink. Good thing, too!

I added some towel hooks, changed the toilet paper holder, and added a new switch plate. The hooks and t.p. holder are from IKEA. I think I'd like to find a piece of art to hang next to the towel hooks.

And one last view. The new hand towel holder living where the old medicine cabinet was. And I changed out the old beige outlet with a fresh new white one.
I would love to retile the shower, but that's a big project that this pregnant momma just can't undertake! One day...........

I hate plumbing. But I hate this faucet even more. It's very outdated. And it's hard to turn on without it coming on with the strength of Niagra Falls. Time for a new faucet!!

I found this beauty at Lowe's. It's much prettier than the old one! And it's brushed nickel so it matches the drawer pulls and new wall fixtures. And it has a new drain stop that will hopefully work better than the old one.

So, removing that old sucker was not fun. This was the view that I spent a lot of time looking at. Those bolts were on tight and there wasn't a lot of room to work with. I kept running into pipes, and drawers, and the sink bowl while trying to get those suckers off! And did I mention I had to lay on my back inside the sink and reach up there with my short arms? Short arms that had gotten a pretty good workout at Stroller Strength that morning? Have I mentioned that I hate plumbing?

One of these things is not like the other............ And this is the part where I realized that I would need some tubing to attach the water lines. The old stuff wasn't going to cut it. This was also the part where I realized that my arms were not long enough or strong enough to remove the old drain myself. Boo for delays! I hate to wait for the hubs to get home so I could make a hardware store run and so he could hold one wrench while I held the other. And someone would have to do the turning.

A trip to the hardware store, some water supply connectors purchased and the help of the hubs to remove the old drain and back to work I went. Back under the sink! I probably got under the sink about 20 times during the process, which means I had to get back out from under the sink about 20 times. It's a good thing I don't have a big baby belly to make it more difficult. I do however lack the stomach muscles that would've been very helpful in that situation. This is the last plumbing job I'm doing during pregnancy!!

But look at this beauty! So much prettier than the old faucet. And it works better. And the drain hasn't fallen off, yet. I am in teeth brushing, hand washing, and face rinsing heaven with this thing!

It's time for the tape to come down! Hurray! No pieces fell off! Looks pretty good, right? Much better than that plain old mirror! It's still not done, though. While it looks great from afar it needs a little touch up work. It's time to clean up the seams.

The paint is dry! It's time to make this mirror beautiful!! So here is where the Liquid Nails comes in handy! Since I couldn't use it on the back of the mirror I figured I'd use it on the front. No way was I going to attempt to use the Sikabond on that. Besides it not having a nozzle it was hard to control. So, I started with the bottom piece. You want to put a good amount of adhesive on your trim piece, but don't get too close to the corners or the edges (particularly the inner edge).

Slap that baby up on the mirror! OK, don't just slap it up there. Line it up and press it on firmly. If your piece isn't resting on the lip of the backsplash now would be a good time to get out your level and make sure that piece is on straight. Tape it in place and repeat. When hanging the side pieces you want to make sure you line it up with the edge of your mirror and again, get out the level and make sure it is straight.

I then hung the other side piece and then the top, taping after each piece went up. You'll notice on the bottom right I used the tension rod again. Once I got the piece on I realized it wasn't completely flat. So I used the rod to push it into place. Worked like a charm (but next time I'll make sure my piece is flat first!!)
It's time to frame the mirror!!! I didn't want a large frame. I knew the bathroom couldn't handle it. I settled on this small trim (which I later realized matches the door frames throughout the house!) which came in a shorter length than a lot of the other trims offered at Lowe's. That worked well for me since I had a toddler in my cart and it was hard enough maneuvering around the store with these lengths. I wouldn't have wanted to attempt it with longer cuts. So out in the garage I gathered my supplies. Trim, miter box and saw, measuring tape, pencil, notepad with measurements and baby monitor. Yep, that last one is definitely a necessity when you're working during a nap time.

Measure twice cut once. I mitered one edge of the trim and them measured and marked where my next cut should go. Can you see that little red line on the left upper notch? That's my cut line. I secured my wood in place, grabbed a hold of my saw and my box and got working!

Don't forget to visualize what direction the cut needs to go before you start sawing! This is the bottom piece of the mirror that I am cutting and the piece on the right is what I am using. The thicker part of my trim is at the bottom.

Repeat this step several more times. I had 4 pieces to cut and two mitered ends to cut on each piece. 8 cuts with a hand saw is hard work. My poor little hand was stiff afterward!! I really wanted to get this project done before nap time was over and while hubby was at work since I was in his parking space in the garage, so I pushed on. All 4 pieces were cut!

I laid them out on the floor to admire my work! And I took a picture to commemorate it!

And then I took a picture to show how awesome I am at determining how much materials were needed. This is all the scraps I had left. I'm pretty impressed with myself. (I really lucked out that the precut sizes were long enough to cut two pieces from, but short enough that I wouldn't have much left over)

We're ready to paint! Dig out that box of thumb tacks that you're not sure why you've been keeping and put them to work. It's much easier to paint the sides of your trim pieces when they are elevated and not touching the work surface. Space a few thumb tacks out along the back of your trim, flip your piece over and there will be plenty of space between your edges and your work surface. (and then brag to the hubby that you knew the tacks would come in handy one day)

I painted the trim black. I used the same black paint that I used to paint my vanity (seen here). It is Glidden Onyx Black. I only have a quart of it, but it was a free quart! Twice now Glidden has given away free quarts of paint and this is the first one I received. It has come in handy! (I also used it to paint my desk.)

Remember how I was so concerned with getting my work done before hubby came home? Yeah, the paint wasn't dry, yet, when he got home, so he still had to park in the driveway. And then the next day I did this. I flipped them over and painted the top inside of each piece. This is a MUST. The reflection of the backside will show once you hang your pieces. That is why you want to paint them. So let these dry again and you'll be ready to hang them!!!
We have a picky eater in the house (AKA - a toddler). I often struggle with dinner ideas because I don't want her to go hungry. I just never know what she's going to eat. Well, except mac & cheese, pizza, and pb&j. I really prefer her to eat what we eat. I don't want to get in the habit of making two dinners. Making one is hard enough with a toddler under foot. Betty Crocker to the rescue!! I love this cookbook. I received it as a wedding gift (it is the bridal edition). As you can see by the splattered, sticky, crinkled dust cover it has been well loved. As a new wife it came in handy when I didn't know how to make things like pancakes or baked potatoes. (No, I never learned how to cook before I was married!!)

One of Cupcake's favorite recipes from this book is the Crispy Baked Catfish. Yes, you read that right. She loves catfish! Actually she likes any kind of white fish. That's my girl!!! (Daddy's not a huge fan of fish)
So here we go......

Combine bread crumbs, corn meal, chili powder, garlic salt, paprika and pepper in a bowl. Mix.

Gather your fish, ranch dressing and breading mixture.

Slather your filets with ranch dressing.....mmmm........ranch dressing.......

Coat it with the bread crumb mixture. Both sides!

Lay them out on your broiler pan (don't judge my messy pan! this is a functional piece of kitchenware, not just for blog photo taking!!) and toss them in the oven.

Bake and enjoy!
You've all seen the great builder's grade mirror transformations all over the internet, right? I've wanted to do that for YEARS in all my bathrooms. We have those ugly just attached by a little plastic clip, no frame mirrors in all 3 bathrooms. I HATE them. I saw a mirror transformation with trim on HGTV a long time ago and insisted that one day I would do that. I just needed to figure out how. I had those pesky clips to worry about!

When I installed the new light fixture in the bathroom it hung down so that it overlapped the mirror. I didn't like that. I also didn't like that I couldn't fit any trim around the mirror to frame it. So the decision was made to put the mirror down as far as it could go, on the lip of the backsplash.

Off to Home Depot I went to find some mirror adhesive. The only adhesive they had was Liquid Nails. I read the back of the can which informed me that the adhesive was meant to be used in conjuction with fasteners such as the clips or a channel. Yep, not what I was looking for.

Off to Lowe's! They had the same Liquid Nails and the two nice employees who tried to help were stumped. One gal handed me something and said it would work. It specifically said it was not to be used on mirrors. No dice. Then in a small box up on the highest shelf I saw 3 cans of Sikabond. I grabbed one and started reading. It looked like a winner! (and previous Google searches suggested this was the best adhesive to use for the purpose I was looking for) As you can see in the picture above there is no nozzle on this bottle. Yeah, none of the 3 bottles had one. Luckily I didn't really need one since I wasn't trying to be precise and make pretty caulk lines and the nice gal that handed me the wrong product earlier felt bad about the lack of nozzle so she marked it down to $5 instead of the $10 it was listed at. Score!

Hanging the mirror was a two man job. So I had to wait until the hubs had a free moment to help. He's a busy man......I got impatient. Finally he had time to help!!! I loaded my Sikabond up in the caulk gun and man that stuff is thick!!! We have a medium duty caulk gun and it had trouble with that stuff!! Hubby started off holding the mirror while I applied the adhesive, but my hand got tired REAL quick and we had to trade jobs. Here you can see the lovely caulk job we did! Luckily no one (but you) will ever see that!!!

We pressed that sucker up against the wall (check out that new paint color!) and pressed and pressed and pressed! We grabbed a tension shower curtain rod to help brace the mirror and added some tape along the top for extra hold. The cure time listed on the package said 5 to 8 days. I kept it up for 7 just to be sure. I didn't want that thing to come crashing down!! It was a long 7 days. I have been SO SO SO antsy to get back in that bathroom!

At this point I had already patched the walls, painted, installed a new light fixture, towel holder, toilet paper holder, scraped all the old caulk out of the shower, recaulked, and scrubbed it shiny! I just wanted out of the hall bathroom! But I wasn't willing to steam up that room while the adhesive was setting, so I had to wait some more..........
It started like this. Actually it started a little worse than this! As you can see I didn't snap these photos until I had already started my bathroom redo. And this is after a bit of an upgrade that I did when I was pregnant with Cupcake. I tiled the floor and painted the vanity then. The previous floor was sheet laminate. I tore that out and laid this gorgeous tile! And the vanity was oak with brass handles. So I painted it black and added some sleek brushed nickel ones. And then I continued to live with it in all it's red with the ugliest brass you're a supermodel light fixture glory. I had a newborn to take care of! And then an infant! And then a toddler! Except now that toddler takes one long nap a day and goes to bed early which allows for a little toddler free redo time.

So I started out by ripping out the shelf that had been installed just above the toilet tank, the ceramic towel bar above that, the ceramic toilet paper holder that resided across the way from the toilet and the recessed medicine cabinet next to the sink. What I was left with was a lot of holes. Oh and did I mention taking out the light fixture and finding another big hole that would not be covered by my new light fixture? (BTW, I replaced the same ugly light fixture above the vanity that is in my bedroom and the hole under that one was even WORSE!)

So my father-in-law recommended joint compound over spackle for all the patch work. He said it wasn't as thick, therefore making it a little easier to smooth out. Plus I had to do a drywall patch where the medicine cabinet was so joint compound would be required to cover the tape. So I bought a big ol' bucket of it! Luckily I already that the drywall on hand (the previous owners had some left over from when they finished the basement) and the drywall tape and drywall screws (I used it when I laid new cement board under the tile floor). I ended up buying 2 drywall patches for the light fixture mess.

And how do you like that broken corner, builder's grade mirror? LOL I broke the corner of that mirror when we first bought this house (7 years ago - yay! my bad luck is over!), but never found a mirror I liked to replace it. Don't worry.....it's not coming back!

So there you have the "before-ish" shots. Coming up next are some "during" shots and maybe (if I ever finally finish it) you'll get the "after" shots. So stay tuned!
I wanted to touch up some paint yesterday or maybe paint the trim in the guest room walk-in closet when I came to the horrible realization......"I only have one paint brush and it is covered in paint!" I have about 10 paint rollers, yet only one brush? How the heck did that happen? I scoured the basement looking for one and all I could find were my foam craft brushes and a 4" wide brush. Not cool!

Luckily going to the hardware store was on my agenda today. I needed to return a switch plate and outlet plate as well as pick up some play sand and flowers for my big pot on the porch. I also added two paintbrushes to that list! And now I want to share with you my favorite paint brush! I know there are all sorts of fancy paintbrushes out there and some really expensive ones with magic bristles, but this is my FAVORITE brush. It's all I ever buy. The reason? The handle!!!

I love the short handle. It makes it very easy to hold. It's especially handy when you have to get into a tight spot. But the best part of all is that it is flexible!!! You see that? Do you see me bending the handle? I really feel like I can better control my paint application with this brush because I can move my hand to a comfortable position by bending the handle. I also love that it's an angled brush. It doesn't matter what I am painting. I always prefer an angled brush.

If you aren't bored and are still reading this and maybe you're even interested in trying this brush out for yourself I typically find it at Lowe's. I might have picked it up at Home Depot before, too, but I can't recall of the top of my head. It's well worth the $6. And bonus points because it is make in Ohio!!
Cupcake is going to be a big sister!! She's very excited to meet her new brother or sister this fall. She's not so sure about sharing her momma, though. It'll take some getting used to, but I think we'll be OK.

The exciting part about this big change (for her) is that she gets a new big girl room!!! Since her nursery is gender neutral and it's the smallest bedroom she'll be getting a new room and baby will get the nursery. That means I've got some redecorating to do!! And that means I'll have some redecorating to share with you!!! So stay tuned to see the changes that'll be coming soon.

I've already started the process and I have a piece of furniture hogging my parking space in the garage to prove it!

A few days ago a big box was delivered to our door. It was Cupcake's new Step2 Naturally Playful Picnic Table with Umbrella!! Her grandparents sent it to her for her Easter/birthday present. It matches her Step2 Naturally Playful Sand and Water Table. My girl loves chairs. She wants to sit in every chair she sees, so this is perfect for her! It sat in the hallway for a few days because our beautiful summer like weather disappeared. Well, and I was supposed to be working on other unfinished projects around the house. But on a beautiful afternoon we took it out back and got to work.

I'm going to be honest here and admit that I didn't put it all the way together. You have to put 4 screws in to the leg pieces in order to put the top and benches on. I put those in, but it isn't predrilled and the electric screwdriver was dead, so it was hard work (especially because I had been out in the garage hand sawing trim pieces during Cupcake's lunch - more on that later). I snapped the table top and benches in and I was supposed to screw those down, too, but I didn't have the energy. So I let her test it out as is. I know, I know! Bad mom!!!

She was supervised the whole time by Oscar and I, so no worries! Now that the screwdriver is charged I'll head out there and secure the pieces (once it stops raining).

I think the table is a hit! It was a great spot for an afternoon snack. I bet she can't wait to have her friends over for a lunch date!

I got myself a fun new toy! A reflector!! When it first arrived hubby was all like "what do you need that for?" Silly, hubby. He doesn't know much about photography. So anywho, on to the reflector. I shoot pretty much exclusively with natural light. I do have one photo bulb downstairs in a cabinet that I used to use with a homemade light box that got destroyed, but it pretty much just lives down there with the spiders. I like to set up next to a window and use available light when shooting, whether it is posing Cupcake in the window seat, shooting cookies before and after I've taken a bite out of them for taste testing, or when showing off my latest craft project like the Chick-sicles.

I stopped into the local camera shop the other day just to look around. I love to support the local business, but the cheapest reflector they had was $50 and seeing as how I am not a pro and I do not make money with my photography I didn't really feel like I could fork over that much money on something I wasn't sure how much I would use. So I found this reflector on Amazon.com. For less than $11 I figured it was worth a shot. It had pretty good reviews and it seemed to have all the functions of the expensive reflector at the camera shop (although I think it's a tad smaller). Nope I lied. I just checked their website. It's also a 22" reflector.

So basically it's a light diffusing disc with a slipcover. The slip cover is reversible and each side is a different color. Black/gold and silver/white. You simply unzip it, flip it around and zip it back up to change. Simple! I realize that I will probably use the white size 95% of the time, but again I only paid $11 for this thing! So here is my example of how the reflector makes a difference.

This is the first picture I took for my Chick-sicles post. As you can tell the light was coming from a window on the right hand size. So the left sides of both chicks is quite shaded and the shadow of the front chick is pretty obvious on the back one. I thought the picture was OK, but then I remember I had a new reflector and I could do better!!!

So I went in the other room, grabbed my new reflector (this is the first time it's been used!!!), switched the slipcover over to white, held it in my left hand while my right hand did the camera work and bam! Check out the light on the left side!!! No more harsh shadows on the sides and the shadow from the blue chick onto the green chick is much less noticeable, right? Neither of these photos have been edited. The only difference is the use of the reflector. Big difference!!! Oh, I am so excited about this!! I tried to tell hubby just how exciting it was, but again, he just doesn't get this photography stuff. I hope you find it interesting, though!

I forsee a lot more reflector use in my future!!

I'm going to attempt to be more regular with my posting. One of the regulars I'd like to stick with is Nap Time Craft Time. I'll share what I worked on during Cupcake's nap time! So here is my first Nap Time Craft Time post!

My friend Stephanie over at Creations A La Mode showed me the cute Chick-sicle pattern she had found and I knew I had to make some, too!! She found the pattern over at Just Another Hang Up. I was super bummed when I realized I didn't have any flannel to make this cute little guys. That gave me an excuse to go to the fabric store!! I kind of needed to go anyway to get cookie cutter's for Cupcake's birthday party (coming up in less than 2 months!!! Eek!!)

You could totally make these cute guys with just some scrap fabric, but fat quarters were on sale, so I had to buy a few for my project. :) I can't resist! I also picked up some orange flannel to use for the beak and coordinating flannel for the backs (turquoise on the green guy, purple for the blue guy). I hadn't looked at the pattern for probably a week before I made my way to the store, so I couldn't remember how many different fabrics I needed or that I needed ric rac. I actually bought 3 coordinating fabrics for each, but I can just use those in different combinations. And I didn't buy any ric rac, so I had to use the leftover blue ric rac from Cupcake's Halloween costume. Luckily it coordinated (better with the blue guy than the green guy, but anywho......). And I happened to have some white nylon cord on hand.

So here was the super fun part of this project. Decorative stitches!!! I have a Brother cs600i machine that I purchased in the fall after running my cheapy, starter Singer into the ground. I've not gotten too adventurous with this machine yet, so this was a fun project to start! I tried out the blanket stitch and a loopy stitch. Of course I had to practice on scraps first and then I lined it up wrong the first time I tried it on my project! No biggie that's what seam rippers are for! And I did make one more mistake along the way (and I strangely do this so often it's embarrassing!). When I stitched the nylon cord on I put it up instead of down, so when I turned my project right side out it was facing the wrong way. Again, that's what seam rippers are for!! I was such a quick and fun project! I thought about making a third one, but I figured Cupcake would wake soon and I was fresh out of safety eyes (I had these on hand so I used them instead of buttons).

Are these cute?!?! Cupcake has never had a boo boo buddy before so I'm excited for her to have a Chick-sicle the next time she gets hurt (which I'm sure is going to be any second now.........girl is as graceful as her momma!).

So there you have it! My Nap Time Craft Time project for the week! I hope you like it!!
It's big girl bed day! Ninja toddler has figured
out how to escape the crib. On Tuesday I heard her jibber jabbering on
the monitor so I went up to her room to discover she had gotten out and
emptied two drawers of clothes all over the floor. Uh oh! I didn't
want to make any rash decisions as several other mommies had said after
the first escape their little one never attempted to get out again.
Cupcake went to bed just fine that night and naptime and nighttime
weren't a problem on Wednesday or Thursday either. (I surrounded the bed
with pillows on the outside just in case she decided to try again) I
thought maybe, just maybe she'd be OK! Well, Friday she escaped again
and didn't get a nap. (Well, unless you count the one in the car on the
way to our afternoon playdate.) Friday night within a half an hour of
putting her to bed she was standing at the door yelling. This morning
she was at the door waiting for me to come and get her.
made. Big girl bed it is! Luckily her crib converts to a toddler bed,
so it was just a matter of removing a few screws, dowels, and putting
the new piece on. She seemed excited to go to bed. She asked for night night. I got her bubba (pacifier) down from the shelf, gave her blankie, turned on her seahorse and tucked her in. I listened in on the monitor for a bit and it was quiet. So I jumped in the shower. When I got out I heard "thunk, thunk, thunk." I knew exactly what she was doing. Girl loves to rock the glider until it hits the wall. I poked my head in and sure enough there she was. And there were clothes and toys scattered all over the floor.

Back in the bed! Attempt #2. Same routine. Bubba, blankie, seahorse, tucked in. It was quiet for a bit and then "bang, bang, bang, clunk, clunk, clunk" She was playing with her pound and roll tower and boy is that loud on the monitor. I gave her a few more minutes, but she was still up. I went back in and found her playing with the clothes. The pound and roll tower was in her bed.

I put her in yet again. This time I sat with her for a few minutes, told her that it was time for night night and gave her some extra kisses. I decided to close her blinds (I normally don't bother with it at nap time and it hasn't been an issue.) I told her one last time night night and walked out. I listened for 20 minutes and didn't hear a peep on the monitor. I had to go back in and sneak a peek. And I found a precious sleeping toddler.

Phew! I was nervous! I was afraid we'd have a lot of napless days ahead of us, but maybe it won't be so bad! She's always been a pretty good sleeper (takes after her daddy!) so I was really nervous to mess it up. I think I'll call it a success! Now let's just hope night time goes well............

I will not claim to be a food critic, but I love to eat (who doesn't?) and I've had my fair share of sweets so I kinda think I know what I'm talking about. And maybe I'm just practicing for a future career in food criticing (and now I'm making up words, too!).

I love to make dessert. Unfortunately I didn't plan ahead so I had to come up with something that I had all the ingredients for so I could make it during Cupcake's nap. I settled on these Campfire Cookies from Fahrenheit 350. The only substitution I made was that I only had dark chocolate chips instead of a Hershey bar.

The recipe was easy to follow and the dough came together quickly, which I like. I spread out my grahams and set to scoop out my dough, but the recipe didn't tell me how much to scoop. I went with my usual Pampered Chef Medium Scoop. (that is the secret to perfectly shaped cookies) It seemed like the right amount. The recipe says to put them in the preheated oven for no more than 11 minutes or the graham cracker will burn. Well, my oven runs hot so I always knock a minute off. The first batch went in for 10. They came out looking cooked and the graham cracker was definitely a bit darker. Some of the cookies oozed over and marshmallow got stuck on the baking sheet. IMPORTANT LESSON: If that happens you need to wash the marshmallow off!!! When I put the next batch in on that cookie sheet the graham crackers stuck to the sheet and I could not get the cookies off without destroying them!! The recipe said it would yield about 4 dozen cookies, but I didn't even get 3 dozen out of the batch, so maybe the medium scoop wasn't the right size?

I let the cookies cool and dug in. At first I wasn't happy. The graham cracker was crunchy and the cookies were still a bit gooey on the inside. I confess I'm a fanatic for soft cookies, so the crunchy part was killing me! I don't have any reviews from the ladies at bowling because the cookies didn't actually make it there. You see, when fighting with the last few cookies that were stuck to the baking sheet I bumped the cooling rack and two dozen cookies flew across the room. After throwing a huge hissy fit (and putting the dog in his crate so he could not attack them) I scooped up the cookies, but they could not be saved. Many broke, several hit face first and stuck to the floor, and I just couldn't serve floor cookies to people! The good news is I had almost a dozen left for taste testing. So, day 2 I taste again and I'm much happier!!! The graham cracker has softened up and the dough seemed less gooey. All in all not a bad cookie. My only complaint now is that the graham cracker is a bit overwhelming. I can barely taste any marshmallow. (I ate at least 3 cookies to make sure it wasn't just an off sample). I may make them again, but I wonder if I couldn't find a better one out there....... If you have a great s'more cookie recipe please share!!! I'd love to try it out!!

Have you ever had Sweets & Beets Chips?
I LOVE sweets & beets and lately I've been wanting some. I keep
forgetting to pick them up at the grocery though. Yeah, I'm horrible
with the list. Strangely I remembered to get sweet potatoes, though!
So I set off to make my own!

It was a rough start. You have to thin slice the potatoes. Do you know how hard that is to do? Well, when you don't have any fancy tools except a knife and a cutting board it is quite difficult. By the second potato I had gotten much better at it, but they still weren't a uniform thickness.

Here's a step I can't screw up, though! Mmmmm.....butter, salt, brown sugar and cinnamon.

Mix it up and drizzle over the potatoes.

Toss the potatoes to coat.

So as you can see some of the edges are a little darker than others. This is why uniform thickness is important. Nonetheless, they tasted fabulous! And they made the house smell delicious! Cupcake ate the first batch the instant they had cooled. They weren't quite as crispy as fried chips, but they are an acceptable substitute. And they are a good excuse to buy a mandoline!

When Cupcake's great grandparents passed away there was a lot of stuff to sort through. Her great Noni passed away a few years ago and her great grandpa passed away when she was just 3 weeks old, so she never got to meet either of them. There are a few reminders of them that we will be able to share with her as she gets older. One of those things is the costume jewelry that Noni had. She had all these great pearl necklaces in several different lengths. I thought one day she would love to play dress up with them. I was right. She has loved playing with these necklaces for months. She calls them pretties. She puts them on with any outfit! Sweatpants included. :) Yesterday I caught her looking like this! What a girly girl! She wanted to wear the necklaces to story time at the library. Of course I didn't let her have them in the carseat, but as soon as we got out of the car she asked for them again. She was the fanciest girl at the library. They did get in the way of her coloring project, though, so they were eventually tossed aside. She sure knows how to make momma smile.

I went to a Thirty-One team meeting last night. On the way out I grabbed a cookie for my ride home. It was just a cookie from a grocery store bakery. Nothing too exciting. There were 4 types to choose from: chocolate, sugar, white chocolate macadamia nut, and apple cinnamon. I thought apple cinnamon sounded fun and different so that's what I went with. Oh, it was the right choice! It was a FANTASTIC cookie. I came home raving about this cookie. Hubby thought I was nuts! I had a dream about that cookie!

My goal for today was to find out how to make those cookies. To the interwebs! I found several recipes, but most did not look promising. Several were just cookies with applesauce in them, so I can't imagine they have that fantastic apple taste I was looking for. So here's what I tried.

Apple pie filling. You don't need the whole can. Do what you want with the rest. Eat it straight out of the can. Make a second batch of cookies. Whatever. I don't judge. Spin around in the food processor to chop those babies up.
Scoop the batter onto your greased or lined baking sheet. I prefer a Silpat. Sprinkle some cinnamon sugar on top. Be generous. I had quite a bit leftover. And the 3rd and half dozen got a good bit more than the first two dozen. They had a yummier crunch on top.

So these cookies definitely turned out good. I could eat a dozen in one sitting. However, they were not nearly as delicious as the grocery store bakery cookie I had last night. Hubby approved of them, too. He didn't taste "the cookie" so he can't compare. I think I might have a new mission in life. I WILL make the most delicious apple cinnamon cookie EVER.

Cupcake has lots of puzzles. And she loves them. We love these Melissa & Doug wooden puzzles. She has a few with animals, a mix & match, and an alphabet set. The alphabet puzzle is a bit tricky for her. There's just too many pieces. It doesn't stop her from trying, though!
She likes to take one letter out and try to put it in another spot. And when it doesn't fit she sets it aside. Eventually we have an empty puzzle, but underneath those letters are pictures! She tries to identify the pictures underneath. She does really well with them!
Cupcake was invited to a Minnie Mouse birthday party over the weekend. I was nervous we wouldn't be able to make it since she wasn't feeling well and not sleeping well, but alas, it's just an ear infection, so no sickness to share! She had so much fun at the party. And she wore her Minnie ears for a good bit of it (until one ear fell off!). She enjoyed the play area, the desserts, and seeing her friends (although she sees them at least twice a week!).
Rule #1 when throwing a child's birthday party. Don't put all the desserts out and close to the edge of the table. This sneaky girl had her hand on the cookie tray every 5 minutes! And a cookie or two just wasn't good enough. She had to eat a whole cupcake, too! At least she is a lady and eats her cupcake with a fork (less mess for momma to clean up!).
In leaving the birthday party I realized I have less than 3 months to plan her 2nd birthday!!! How is that even possible?!?!?!
Have you ever tried to do a photo shoot with a toddler? Fun times! I don't have a fancy studio or fun props, but I love to do photo shoots with Cupcake. She loves the big dining room chairs, so I plopped one in the middle of the living room and told her to say cheese. It wasn't going well. Luckily she had made a foam heart Valentine at the library and it proved to be the perfect prop. Mostly she tried to pick the stickers off the front, but out of the 24 or so shots I got 2 good ones. We settled on #2 for the "official" Valentine's Day photo. I think it's a winner.
But the secret is out, so now we're sharing with you. I saw this great idea on Prudent Baby for making a heart stamp out of a toilet paper roll. Corinne was in need of a bath so I figured it would be a good time to let her play with some red paint! She sure did have fun stamping (and swirling) her heart stamp on the paper! So much so that momma had to help so at least one of the hearts actually looked like a heart! After her cards were done I did let her go to town on a piece of paper and she had a blast making a huge red blob! We wrote a sweet message in each card, tucked in a picture and sent them off to her favorite people (excluding her awesome parents). And just like her momma, Cupcake's got the crafty gene in her. Now she wants to paint all the time!!
